Yup -- not a single scooter in Beijing. Scooters still dominate in much of China -- they cost about $3k to $5k and are very affordable and easy to park -- they make a lot of sense in the south. BTW, most people in Japan do not own cars because there is no place to park and good public transport. It is certainly not an affordability issue. China has chosen to invest heavily in road construction -- too much emphasis on cars in my opinion, but it is not my call to make.
