AirPrime and KTF deliver world's first CDMA2000 1xEV-DO PC5230 wireless PC card

January 7, 2003

AirPrime, a provider of 3G CDMA wireless access solutions for the OEM market, together with KTF, a subsidiary of Korea Telecom and South Korea's second largest wireless network operator, today announced that the mass production release of the world's first CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Wireless PC Card with antenna diversity has commenced.

AirPrime's PC5230 Wireless PC Card enables KTF subscribers to utilize an array of complete Internet applications including multimedia, email with large attachments, and access to corporate networks and Internet sites with streaming audio/video. AirPrime is the first vendor to create and deliver this revolutionary product to mobile Internet users on KTF's 1xEV-DO 3G wireless network. KTF deployed the world's first commercial CDMA2000 1xEV-DO network in South Korea earlier this year.

AirPrime's PC5230 Wireless PC Card enables laptop users to have always-on access to KTF's high-speed, leading-edge 1xEV-DO network. The 1xEV-DO Wireless PC Card by AirPrime can achieve peak data rates of 2.4Mbps. Using QUALCOMM's MSM5500 Mobile Station Modem (MSM) chipset and system software for CDMA2000 1xEV-DO, The PC5230 Wireless PC card by AirPrime supports Korea's PCS band and includes a breakthrough dual antenna scheme. The notably advanced antenna facilitates diversity operation and the highest 1xEV-DO data rates possible.

"We are very proud of this significant achievement," said Jim Kirkpatrick, CEO of AirPrime. "The PC5230 represents our first commercial PC Card product offering and we are thrilled to partner with KTF as we launch this sophisticated wireless solution."

"QUALCOMM is pleased to see compelling wireless products leverage our 1xEV-DO technology," said Johan Lodenius, senior vice president of marketing and product management for QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies. "KTF has done an exceptional job deploying, optimizing and commercializing the network, and AirPrime consistently delivers exceptional, high-performance 3G CDMA terminal products. This combined solution really sets the bar for the 3G wireless experience."

"This product launch is a technological first not only for South Korea, but worldwide. KTF is committed to offering our customers the most advanced, high-quality terminal solutions available, and this remarkable new product offering rounds out our comprehensive 3G-product portfolio," said Song, Joo Young, vice president of KTF. "CDMA2000 1xEV-DO truly delivers the affordable high-speed wireless experience that customers seek. The PC5230 Wireless PC Card by AirPrime enables our business subscribers with remote access to all their critical data and information from their notebook PCs."

Not only does the PC5230 support CDMA2000 1xEV-DO, but it also is backwards compatible with CDMA2000 1X -- this permits subscribers to leverage the entire network while taking advantage of the highest data rate connection available.
