It's interesting I remember back in late 60's the company invested in solar energy as they felt oil would down the road not be the choice of energy and cheaper sources would replace oil... I believe they spent the next thirty years on one subsidiary testing and making solar cells. another large investment was to get oil from shale. Many companies put big bucks into the project as they felt we were running out of resources and it would be profitable to heat the shale and release the oil... Then came technology with the ability to drill deeper and deeper wells off shore.. They developed new ways to get more out of wells vs leaving half the reserves in the well because they didn't have the technology to get the rest of the oil.

You got to figure down the road ,, solar cells ,,( now paint I understand with materials in the paint is being used to get energy from the sun) etc... will come along and replace oil... We already have synthetic lubricants with lifetime use.

Must go back to reading a few mystery stories I got for Christmas... good luck on oil.g

ps just notice this short interview on cree thread on led's.. no mention of progress in light bulbs but they are already on the market. Message 18411307
