I think the only hope for this mess is to get cash as soon

as possible to the broad masses that are likely to spend it. Bush could simply cut military spending by 10% or $40 billion and send 40 million (half of) households a thousand bucks each.

Instead of course he'll blow it on the rich where it'll have little or no effect to stimulate the economy.
