Even the Bush gang may have noticed that Greenspan is out

of bullets and quite powerless, contrary to the opinion of 99% of Washington and Wall St., say two years ago. Hence the desperation now.

Bush's plan doesn't address the huge debt loads of corporations and households. The huge deficit will depress the dollar and force interest rates higher at the long end - hurting those debtors, not to mention U.S. states and cities. So, the Fed may be forced to hike short interest rates in order to prop up the dollar and keep long term rates in check.
