That Iraq is not a terrror related threat is obvious to all but the politically motivated or the totally insensitive

It has been disclosed that in the days immediately following 9/11, while formulating plans for retaliation, the president received advice from his cabinet that it would not be feasible to extinguish terrorism (using the administration's broad definition) without dealing with Iraq.

Why do you suppose this consideration was made? Particularly, while the dead at WTC were still being counted? Do you think these advisors were thinking "revenge for Bussh 41's attempted assasination"? Was it about oil? Within weeks of 9/11 did these advisors put these issues ahead of dealing with the true problem of terrorism?

Secondly, did you note the stuff I posted this AM re the 5 men who allegedly crossed the border........turns out it was a hoax promoted by some tipster. Makes you wonder how much of the info we have been given re al Qaeda is the real deal.

I would like to think that this is the FBI covering possibilities. As long as they are not intentionally FUDding (and I don't think they are), it's forgiveable.

Al, as I said to Tenschusatsu, it bothers me that they were so sure the guys had made the crossing. It wasn't presented as a cautionary warning but as an accomplished fact. I am not faulting them for trying to mislead but rather its this kind of stuff that creates fear and tension. Further, if they got this wrong, how much other stuff are they getting wrong?
