Yeah, everyone wants the higher rate to start at a dollar more then they make. I had a heated debate this summer with a couple friends about graduated tax rates. This friend of mine was convinced that "rich" people weren't paying their fair share of the taxes. No amount of stats could convince them otherwise. Just recently we had New Years Eve dinner with them and because they had made so much money in the year they were facing the highest tax bracket and were complaining bitterly about the size of the check to the IRS. I asked them how it felt to be "rich" and paying their fair share. Needless to say, if looks could kill.... -g-
