Ken, did you see where the OR Supreme Court ruled that it was constitutional to funnel 60% of the punitive damages awards to the state to benefit crime victims? The ruling stated the main purpose of the damages was to give "bad actors" a legal spanking, not to compensate an injured party. Kind of changes the incentives for juries. The State is getting a windfall from the actions of a private citizen and his attorney. Now the old adage of having Uncle Sam as a partner in business applies to having him as a partner in civil lawsuits.

I do favor benefits to crime victims but I'm not sure if this is the fair way to do it. It just seems to be a deep pockets issue with little logical, ethical or moral persuasion behind it.
