Open-Standards Based Global Program Helps Developers Bring Wireless Apps From Concept to Market

SHANGHAI, China, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Motorola (NYSE: MOT - News) today announced the launch of the company's new global developer program, MotoCoder. The interactive program was created in response to ongoing developer feedback and has been designed to enable a total mobile development environment. MotoCoder provides customized support for each developer partner, along with access to free development tools, product portfolio information, technical training, new business models and distribution channels.

The global program kicks off today in China -- the world's largest mobile handset market and country with the fastest growing population of mobile developers -- with the first MotoCoder developer event in Shanghai. At the MotoCoder launch event developers will be interacting with the latest handsets in Motorola's dynamic portfolio, receiving the full array of MotoCoder tools, training and technical support, while networking with other mobile developers in an informal and interactive setting.

The MotoCoder program will be the engine driving the ongoing application development that supports the entire Motorola wireless portfolio. The technology innovations offered by Motorola provide the opportunity to create new entertainment and productivity applications that enhance the final mobile experience. In addition, Motorola's heritage in bringing new technologies to market provides a strong foundation for added growth through the MotoCoder program.

"We're creating additional channels of distribution for mobile content around the globe," said Marc Naddell, Director of MotoCoder, Motorola's Personal Communications Sector. "Our MotoCoder's program, in combination with our unparalleled Java(TM) solutions and technical leadership, will enable mobile developers to bring innovative applications to market and tap into new sources of revenue."

Motorola's broad Java technology-based portfolio includes handsets, content, billing and provisioning servers from 4thpass' Mobile Application System (MAS). MotoCoder is powered by Metrowerks, who provide the program's developer tools, CodeWarrior IDE, technical support, and certification program.
