I should point out that Mr. Ventura presented himself as something of a libertarian, rather conservative. Not at all liberal.

After he was elected he surrounded himself with centrist and liberal democrats but that's another story.

It will be a long time before another independent Governor is elected here. The experiment was not considered a success.

I doubt that the emerging candidate will win as a libertarian,

Mr Venturas' election to the governorship of Minnesota was the blue print to the true wild card in American politics, his winning % came from the Non Voting Majority and from both the major parties whose membership defected in frustration with the politics of that present.

Interesting rationale that rings true. Do you have links to national pollsters?

Sorry. If it was going to happen anytime since the Whigs disappeared 150+ years ago, there are dozens of eras that would have been far more likely than today.

The mega-change that's coming is the move of the Democrats away from the Marxist/Leninist anti-American left that has held them tightly by the balls since 1970. There is a huge vacuum for a loyal opposition to the Republicans, who will pretty-much hold all 3 branches until the Democrats have rebuilt themselves and, driven the oak stake through their Clintonesque image. That could take a decade or more. Their 1964 is ahead of them, in 2004. After that, watch for signs of a renaissance in the party that holds the record, having survived continuously for over 2 centuries...

Proud member of the Non Voting Majority where an Abstaining Vote is a NO Confidence Vote.

What do you see as the impetus for current non-voters to vote for a third party candidate?
