PEBBLE BEACH, Calif.--The silicon foundry industry is expected to grow by 30% in terms of worldwide sales this year, from $10.7 billion in 2002, to $14.3 billion in 2003, according to a new forecast from IC Insights Inc. here today.

By 2004, the foundry industry is also expected to jump 50% to $21.4 billion over 2003, according to the Scottsdale, Ariz.-based market research firm.

The foundry business has made a stunning comeback since 2001, when it fell by a staggering 37% over 2000, IC Insights said. In 2002, the market hit $10.7 billion, up 20% over 2001, the company said.

The “pure-play” foundry industry, which includes the likes of Chartered, TSMC, and UMC, is expected to grow from $8.2 billion in 2002, to $10.7 billion in 2003, to $16 billion in 2004, it said.

Foundry sales among integrated device manufacturers (IDMs) are expected to grow from $2.5 billion in 2002, to $3.6 billion in 2003, to $5.4 billion in 2004. IDMs in the foundry business include Hynix, IBM, and Toshiba.

AKT, Inc., an Applied Materials company

Wow, you know all along I thought this was a division of AMAT. It appears to be a separate company. Maybe, since they are a separate company the revenue is broken down in the financials... then I can gauge just what the growth rates are targeted for since I know Morgan wants to get AKT to a billion$ (not sure timeframe).
