I beg to differ as a passbord holding member of the european union, I think you have not realized yet, that this Union ( United states of europe) is working since a couple of years, and it is working well, the euro in the shade of the almighty strong US $ had a difficult start, but it is coming up!
Germany's trouble comes from an enormous bleed of there financial resources since the unification with east germany, this will take some time!

Well said. I, for one, do believe these things will take place a lot sooner than most. In todays' world, things that would have taken years to put in place can be done in a few months with a few rogue events.
