Card Failure...with high capacity cards and large file sizes

Could the card's read/write speed have something to do with it?

I mean my Canon 1D, for example, needs to write a boatload of data to the card pretty dang fast, when I let 'er rip at 8 frames per second, RAW and Large JPEG. I can't remember exactly what speed rating my Transcend 512MB cards have (not on the card, and I didn't retain the packaging), but if I recall correctly it's over 20. The Lexar 1GB that failed has a rating of 16. How fast is your Viking?
