FTSE sags as Dixons warns, Glaxo gain limits fall
Wednesday January 8, 11:44 am ET

LONDON, Jan 8 (Reuters) - A profit warning from electricals retailer Dixons (London:DXNS.L - News) sent Britain's FTSE 100 share index lower on Wednesday, fuelling concern that consumer spending would no longer prop up the country's struggling economy.

Dixons' shares lost a fifth of their value following news a dismal Christmas would leave full-year profits short of analysts' forecasts. Rivals in the electricals business were caught in the undertow, which saw Kingfisher (London:KGF.L - News) lose 7.8 percent and GUS (London:GUS.L - News) fall 4.3 percent.
