I can't stand trapping, so I totally agree with you about that. Seems like an unnecessary cruel and repellent business to me.

Language is a strange thing. It's inexact, and symbolic, but I think most of us forget that when we are using it, because language becomes so much a part of who we are. The language we speak shapes our thoughts, or so studies seem to suggest. The labels we use in our language make us think the things we think, to some extent. And obviously, we aren't exploring ideas and feelings we don't have words for. There are (imo) bound to be such ideas and feelings, but without words for them, it is as if they do not exist.
