That was a reasonably well thought out article. I have of late been focusing on this paragraph.

It's conservatives, not liberals, who are naive about the real meaning of anti-discrimination law. They say they love the Civil Rights Act, "Dr." King, and the "ideal" of the color-blind society. They want to protect "individuals" from discrimination, but not "groups." They like "equality of opportunity" but don't like "equality of result."

I have seen in the professional world that is the directors provide a goal, and measure to it, that racial discrimination pretty quickly disappears. That is a bit different than mandating a result, but since people's futures and bonuses depend upon achieving the stated goals they try harder. Not reaching a goal means at least explaining why and not necessarily a penalty. The final result, the colorblind society, can only be achieved by finishing the corrective process, not by dragging out the status quo.
