Unemployment #'s were a huge reminder that not only are things not that good, but they're not getting better anytime soon.
Keep in mind, companies base their projections and cap expenditures on "expert analysts", most who steadfastly and wrongly call for recovery of varying degrees.
What happens when it not only doesn't happen, but shows a reversal?
Panic mode of even less spending and more closings and layoffs. We are not experiencing a normal cyclical economic downturn. This will trickle down and affect everyone
I am hearing concern and desperation voiced from virtually every retailer I know of in the area. Personally, we've seen an amazingly sharp drop in floor traffic and phone calls. As bad as consumer spending was in Dec, it will be 5 x's worse in months to follow. Washington and mkt is way out of touch.
