There has been a big issue in recent years about taxing professional athletes for their road games, not just in California but most places. It started with Alex Rodriguez's $250MM contract with the Texas Rangers. Basically, he owes tax on 1/162nd of that salary (they play 162 games) for each road game to the state where the game is played. I read an article about it sometime last year but don't have it handy.
