D**N RIGHT WE ARE! We got Prop 13 through to control property taxes, but that was decades ago and the various local gov'ts have been chipping away at it ever since.

Too many conflicting interests to get anything done. Everybody wants lots of state services and insurances of various sorts, but nobody wants to pay.

Why companies are based here? Lots and lots of techies availble. Lots of universities turning out techies who start companies right here. Good weather and lots of things to do so they don't want to leave. Lots of other tech companies nearby to buy from, sell to, and steal ideas and people from.
Need a KQ144 widget? The company that makes it is probably within 20 miles or a wholesaler within the same distance. Makes getting tech support easy.

BUT a lot of companies have also left, mainly because of idiotic housing prices, but also taxes.
