Al Re..We were talking about the costs of war...you said the last one cost us 140 soldiers..clearly understating the cost of a war.< We were not talking about total costs of war. You was talking about the cost in lives of the US soldiers, and I countered with how many total lives would be saved, as Saddam averages 100,000 lives a yr. No where did we ever start to discuss total cost of war. Why don't you give me links, showing why SA would be a better place to start our counterattack on terrorism than Iraq. Because I don't believe that an attack in either place is justified. Again..you keep losing track of the argument. ONce again, it was you who tried to sidetrack the Iraq war by claiming we should go to war in SA. If you don't believe in going to war with either, just say so and maintain that line. Back the other way again. You shame me into a discussion the basis of which is that the war on Iraq has a humanitarian side Which is true. I can be a nice guy at times. and then you show yourself for the cold calculated hawk you really are. Ah thank you. Cold calculated hawk has a nice ring to it. Sort of like calling me Churchill. Certainly much better than Ted calls me. However I doubt if you told me that to make me feel good. What is wrong being a cold calculated hawk nowadays. Certainly better than being a wimpy liberal in a time of war. If you don't care about the Iraqi people, then don't bring it up and then we'll have a more honest discussion Just because I am a calculated hawk, doesn't mean I have no heart. After all, unlike some here, I feel for the children of Jews, just as much as for the children of Iraq, as well as for the unborn child. In order to calculate the cost of war in lives, you must calculate the cost, in lives if you don't go to war. If we could modernize the arab states enough to feed themselves, we probably could save 200,000 lives a yr. In Vietnam, Cambodia etc. Southwest asia, with new strains of rice, introduced by the US, that whole region is self sustaining in food production. Israel has many advanced technologies, yet the arabs refuse to incorporate them. Why, because Islam says so. That is the mentality we must overcome there. Westernization could be the cause of their salvation, not the cause of their destruction, as the fundamentalists are trying to say. Israelis make $20 k per yr. The average of the arab states surrounding Israel, $4000. We need to equalize that difference by copying successful proven methods, into the arab states. Iraq is a good place to start. Give it a chance, or propose a better solution. Doing nothing just causes the calculations of starving children to go up. This is total nonsense. The US did not/does not need Kosovo to exhert influence in Europe. Really. Bill didn't want to go to war in Europe, for humanitarian purposes alone, he thought it would be better handled at their end. However Bill was talked into it, by the argument that if we didn't help NATO this time, perhaps NATO would look the other way when we ask for it. In his article Brzeznescki and others argued, correctly I might add, as the Warsaw pact was just breaking up then, that the US needed to maintain the dominant position in NATO, by taking the lead in the Balkans, and holding our bargaining power in tact for the new round of bargaining for the takeover of Warsaw pact countries by NATO. LOL...on the same quality of evidence we have to justify our attack this time. The same evidence we can't share with even our own senators. LOL And you think we should be sharing info with the likes of Mz Murray, who has made no secret of her admiration for OBL methods. Boy, for someone whose party barely won the presidential election and actually lost the popular vote, you guys sure are cocky Like it or not, the rapid demise of dem hopes happened shortly after 9/11. Al isn't even a viable candidate anymore, and Fox is getting so powerful, even the big three are going more conservative. Every person of importance, who has stood up and called GW an idiot has found out how popular that stance is with the people.
