I would not be surprised if Plutarch were writing fiction. Not all customs and values are in the mainstream, and the relationship of the mainstream to extremes is often complicated. Suffice it to say that the Holocaust was a secretive operation manned by volunteers from the SS, an elite party organization representing some of the worst fanatics among the Nazis. It included some individuals in occupied territories, largely Poles and Ukrainians, who shared a virulent anti- semitism. Suffice it to say that few, if any, neo- Nazis try to defend the Holocaust, rather, they try to deny that it occurred, or blame it on an underling rather than Hitler. That shows the degree of its shamefulness.......
