Back in March 2002, the compq penetrated its 200-d sma to the upside- -but not its 200-d ema.

At the DEC 2002 high, it penetrated both and promptly fell back.

I prefer the EMA over the SMA. Note my chart shows the Nasdaq with room for continued bullish move. I use slightly different settings than JXM.
