I'm sure nothing can overcome the perception that this is the worst Christmas in decades. But anyway, another item showing rising demand for electronics.

Sony said it has sold over 4 million units of its PlayStation2 game consoles during the key holiday shopping season in November and December to users in North America. The figure represents a 42 percent gain over the same period last year, according to figures released by Sony's [s:sne] game business unit Sony Computer Entertainment. In Europe, the company sold more than 3.4 million units of PS2, a gain of 27 percent. But sales in Japan declined 27 percent to 940,000 units. Overall worldwide sales totaled 8.5 million units, a rise of 24 percent from the year-ago period.
