There is some dispute as to whether amendment 16 was passed following the proper process. I have forgotten the exact argument, but gist was that an amendment that went through the proper process would of course make income tax legal, however the 16th didn't, so it isn't.

This from my old days as a (big L)ibertarian.

I don't dispute they can charge me taxes.. I just wish they'd send me a bill like everyone else does ;o)..
