Well, it depends on your perspective. I think we will muddle through, absolutely. I don't think that it is anything that any living person will notice. It will be a process that people will be able to go back through the history books and say "yup, look at what happened to the US of A". Just like The Holy Roman Empire, the British Empire, the USSR...etc...

Maybe there will be a day when there is a defining event like the USSR, or maybe it will be a slower process like Great Britain where they empire slowly but surely shrank to a manageable size.

It's not something that I think we have to worry about. Nothing we can do at this point.
