I would agree with you. If the church violates laws that are both reasonable and constitutional it should expect no protection from the idea that it was somehow and internal church matter.

It's a crime.

Just like this: if you and X have a verbal argument about who's supposed to do the dishes, that's internal and it's nobody's business but yours.

But when she breaks your arm twisting it, it becomes a crime and an external matter.
