Socialism is a continuum from more to less. Someone who greatly reduces the ownership of private property
is supporting the cause of socialism and I think it would be accurate to call them a socialist. They don't have to
eliminate it. Also if the government controls the means of production without actually owning it that would also
be a socialist scheme. If everything that the produces or goods and services do is controled by tight regulations
and then they have to give a large percentage of their profit to the state that is at least leaning towards socialism

Socialism is not a part time ideology......something you do as a halfway measure.......and its not a continuum from more to less. its a complete society which advocates "the collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods" and there is no private property.

Therefore, there is no such thing as "leaning towards socialism". Most of the things you listed are normal functions of many gov'ts none of which need to be socialistic. The reason there are gov'ts is because society has become to complex. If there were not gov'ts, society would run amok.

even if it is not an example of total socialism (but if you demand socialism be total they you can find no
examples)

I am not familiar with the workings of all the gov'ts in the world so I can't tell you if there any socialistic states. But I do know that the Dems are not a party espousing socialism or working towards a socialistic state.

The fear of party planks that resemble components found in socialism is borne of ignorance and probably greed.
