>>>Do you also agree that you and I probably don't have the most up to date intelligence on what threat Iraq may pose to the U.S.?<<<

I'll put it to you this way. I didn't think the Russians were going to invade either. So it's not a stretch for me to assume that Iraq will harm the US. On a scale of competing harms, however, one could reasonably argue that the US has placed up harm upon Iraq than Iraq has the US.

>>>If so, isn't it premature to say "don't start the war"? Isn't the right place to start "show me the threat"?<<<

The consequences of a Middle Eastern war, the possibility it could spread into other areas of the region or beyond, give credence to the argument: Don't start the war. This is especially true given that, as of this writing, no proof has been provided that such weaponry exists.

>>>My concern is that the template for attacking the U.S. has been set. Not necessarily by flying airplanes into buildings, but by doing other acts of terrorism on our own soil.<<<

The US has a famous and checkered history of supporting covert actions in Third World nations. For instance, Saddam was cool when he was doing our bidding. It might better be the case to say we've sown the seeds of which have grown into our problems of today. A fullscale war is not a solution.

>>>I believe that our Gov't has evidence that Saddam was directly or indirectly planning to do something.<<<

Why do you believe that?

>>>If there is no evidence, then I would not support an act of aggression toward Iraq.<<<

Why do to Iraq what Iraq did to Kuwait?

>>>And "no", I don't trust the UN to do a thorough inspection.<<<

Why not? As I recall, Saddam has invited the CIA to come into his country and inspections. What ever happened to that offer, do you know?

BTW: did you see that bit of news a couple of weeks ago where Germany was selling arms and other prohibited goods to Iraq. And then coincidentally, Germany says that they won't support aggression against Iraq?
