US and Pakistani defence academics began two days of talks here Friday in a further signal of the thawing of bilateral military relations between them.

The National Defence College is hosting the symposium, to which it invited key members of the US National Defence University, among them two former ambassadors to Pakistan and military officers.

"They'll be focusing on strategic issues, regional and bilateral issues," a US embassy spokesman said, adding there were no public office-holders involved.
