Nokia to withdraw from South Korea

Friday January 10, 2003, Telecom.paper

Finland based Nokia is to close its Research and Development Center in the South Korean capital Seoul. According to Nokia this is in line with a new global marketing strategy. The company's research center in Korea was established in 1999 and was involved in localizing products in line with customer demands in the Korean market. The measurement by the world's largest cell phone manufacturer is due, according to analysts, to tough competition with local electronics giants in Korea like Samsung and LG.

"According to Nokia this is in line with a new global marketing strategy."

ROTFLMAO!

Did they really expect a piece of Korea's wCDMA showcase infrastructure build?
