As long as adults love and care for each other, who cares who they are, and why should we care?

Genetics. Marriages often produce offspring.

In a free country, I don't know why we're in the business of controlling social issues between adults at all. Do YOU know why we are in that business? If you throw out religion (because we are not a theocracy, and we do not mix religion and the state) why should we be in the business of regulating who gets married to whom?

Because a public recognition of marriage forces others in society to recognize by law a fundamental human relationship that has no integrity with human identity. All humans, even homosexuals, are in their most fundamental nature, constructed of biological contributions of exactly one man and exactly one woman. All of society is based upon that essential biological identity. Homosexuality has no integrity at all with that basic human nature. Homosexuality is not us. And so to force us to by default claim it is us would be false. To force us to support with public resources such a relationship would be a sin against our own nature.

Homosexuals may live and have sex even with dogs and other animals if they wish. Indeed those sexual relationships have as much integrity with fundamental human nature and identity as homosexual relationships. But homosexuals have no natural right to force society to accept and/or recognize their naturally and objectively aberrant behavior.
