thanks for that; Sheehan is a smart guy and helps write the Baseball Prospectus books (and web site) every year. of course, he's a stats geek which means he doesn't know what the f' he's talking about <g> this is really the only thing you need to know about Santo: "Santo is unique in baseball history, a third baseman who hit like a left fielder while playing excellent defense at the hot corner. " this is precisely what made Joe Morgan such a valuable player. yeah, a lot of guys hit like Morgan, but NOBODY hit like Morgan while also contributing gold-glove caliber defense at an important defensive position. big bopping left fielders and first basemen are a dime a dozen; guys who can put up Morgan or Santo-like numbers and play gold-glove infield defense are upper-eschlon Hall of Famers.
