Pleased to meet you, too, Sam :)

Were you born there?

No. I lived most of my life in the Middle East, and moved to Monaco several years ago.

I have a rather magical impression of Monaco

It IS rather magical <g>

looking out on the lush scenery from a train window enroute from Florence to Paris

Then you did not see Monaco at all, because while in Monaco, the train goes from within the mountain and NEVER surfaces. If you like, I can send you some photos, though. Got mail address?

What is it actually like to live and raise children there?

Living here is great - perpetual good weather, mountains behind you, the Mediterannean Sea in front of you, 180 degrees, until the horizon. 25 min to Nice, 45 min to Cannes, 1.5 hrs to St Tropez on one side, 30 min to San Remo, 1.5 hrs to Genova, and 2.5 hrs to Milan (by car) on the other side. Great fun as well - where there is money, there is always fun, you know <g>

It is also extremely safe. Really. Nothing criminal ever happens on the streets here (money laundering is another issue, of course).

Anyway, I love it :)

Are there any disadvantages?

Not that I am aware of. Oh wait... the rents, of course!
