You're right, it's not a necessity. At this point in time, though, it's the best idea around, IMO, and one I support. What is more problematic, also IMO, is that there is only one way to think or to do things. Just as upward mobility is healthy, so is attitudinal flexibility and tolerance. Stepfordism regarding culture, morality, and the like are as suffocating as the old aristocracy.
