If my church has $100,000 and the government takes $20,000, it's limiting my abilty to use my money to support my mission.

If you have $100k and the government takes $20k+ whether or not you give money to a church is that preventing either the church or you from having the freedom to exercise your religion?

I don't say it's necessarily a winning argument. But it's quite a bit stronger than claiming that not taking money from the churches is subsidizing them.

Making the point that the money is not the governments and that tax reductions or elimination of taxes is not a generous benefit given by the government is more important to me then the issue of tax deductions for religious contributions.
