Conservatism is a noble thing in principal, but the current neo-conservatives have polluted it: 1) Fiscal recklessness 2) Anti Teddy Roosevelt environmental plundering 3) Grab it all while we can mentality 4) Deregulation so to let in white collar thieves 5) Blatant propaganda posing as news (Limbaugh, Hannity) 6) Lying to the American people whenever necessary 7) Secrecy and closed-mindedness 8) All but ignoring the needs of the middleclass and poor 9) Special interest deals with questionable sectors 10) Coverups and denials 11) Saber rattling and unilateralism, pushing wars 12) Denials about racism but no change in racial policy Conservatism in my mind ought to stand for fiscal conservatism, less interventionism, more conservation, honesty and integrity to prove values, helping families in real ways, not kowtowing to dictators and corrupt governments, balancing budgets and no cooked books. Nothing is black and white but you can see conservative is starting to mean the wrong things. That said, I'm really not a conservative, just conservative on some issues.
