Taxes
latimes.com

Do you pay taxes on where you live, where you work, where the business is or wht? Are there special rules for Califorinia that somehow they can enforce that other states do not?

How does this work?

I am incorporated in Illinois.
If I get a contract in California, I would assume the money goes to the Illinios coorporation, out of which I pay my salary and as my home base is Illinois, Illinois taxes. There are no California hooks that could get around this are there?

What about a person living in California but maintaining his legal residence in say Arizona. Who does he pay taxes to? I have no doubts that some top people are going to eventually try and avoid CA taxes. 11% is nuts. The federal govt takes 35%, the state takes 11%, then you have sales taxes taking 7% on what you buy, and property taxes of 3-4%.

Am I missing something here. Yes. Social Security tax of 6.5% for most people but this drops to zero at the cutoff. Let's add that up. OOPs I am forgetting about city state and local taxes if any, as well as additional gasoline taxes. What else? Have they figured out how to tax the air we breathe yet?

35+11+7+4+6
What do we have.
Is this correct?
Up to 66% of money we make goes for taxes (if we spend it all).
Even if I am off by 10% is this nuts or what?
Half our $ goes to taxes and the states and federal goverment are running massive deficits.

Something has to give?
What is it?

I wrote that soapbox piece just prior to reading this.
Here is a very similar viewpoint from Mauldin.
I think you will like it.

2000wave.com

A must read for Macro trend players.
Quite similar in ways to my soapbox but more detailed.

After reading mauldin, I am thinking of getting even more gold, and more PSAFX.
