John,

<< Anyone else see some big holes in these numbers >>

Yes. <g>

You mixed subscribers and handset numbers in your table. <ggg>

The most obvious "hole", however, is this statement made by RCR about the TTI report:

"The year’s total 142 million wireless subscribers [U.S. wireless market] included 25.3 million GSM subscribers, almost doubling the 12.3 million GSM users reported in 2001."

GSM subscribers in the US did not come close to almost doubling this year and although 12.3 million GSM users is about right for US GSM users at end of 2001, there were most certainly not 25.3 million GSM subscribers in the US at close of 2002.

US GSM subs at end of 2002 will probably report in the 17m to 18m range.

EMC for GSMA has GSM subs at 22.1m through November and that is for ALL the Americas (North, Central, South and Carib), not just tbe US. Annual growth in North America for 2002 will be ~35%
