I should add, while I do miss not having it there, to post things as they're happening, I am not wasting a lot of time on internet. Especially since it's just a dial up connection I have there, and soooo sloooow! Pulled off another all nighter this evening. Didn't recapture that magical day I had a couple weeks ago But came close. 'I did get a bunch of stuff soun, mostly lidded jars and vases. Now that I've gotten quite a bit of stuff ready for a glaze load I supppose the next dilemma will be finding my recipes and hoping to get the right ones mixed, and mixed correctly. You know I've been thinking, Perhaps the major reason for not getting my copper reds or intense celadons could be because the size of my kiln may require a longer soak period during the reduction phase of the firing. In fact, after examing a number of peices from the last firing, I'm almost 100% certain that is the reason. I come to that conclusion by looking at the clay body that isn't glazed(ie:footing or rims of the lids. In a reduction, even though it is a white stoneware It will still have the resulting color of a darker buff color; this opposed to a much lighter cream color in an oxidation atmosphere. The last load all have cream colored clay bodies. I swear, this next firing I'm going to make 100% sure I get a reduction. gonna soak it at cone 8-9 in reduction for a solid hour Than clean it up with a light oxidation as it reached temps(cone 10 or 2390°F. It's gotta be it! Well, my last session of classes ended last week. I think my students got their money's worth. I'll elaborate more on last one and this current set of classes(started yesterday) at a later date. Perhaps tomorrow(er, today) after I get a couple hours of sleep in me. Looks like I should manage to get about 2 1/2 hours sleep before they kids wake up to get ready for school. Might just sleep out here in the home office so I can get perhaps a few extra hours. Talk to you later. Hope you been enjoying our spring like weather. Two more days until spring is officially here. P.S> Did I mention I've been asked to do a day long demonstration for some 70 3rd grade students here the first week of April? It's national arts month down here in the lower 50. I did it for them a few years back. It was a blast I believe this year will be just as much fun. I've decided to do some pinch and coil pots with an earthenware this time with the kids. Last time I brought my wheel Demonstrated and let a few kids try their hands at it too along with hand building. I'm looking forward to it. I already ordered some 200# of clay for the students. They offered to pay for the clay and my time even but I refused any payment, not even for the supplies. I'm such a nice guy<GGGG> Actually, just watching the kids have fun with the clay is reward/payment enough. I'll let you know how that goes too.
