I sort of agree; just don't know enough about Bush to know how serious the piety is. But, assuming it is so, my cynicism leads me to think that it didn't hurt that Rove and crew saw a definite political gain with Jewish voters. And Jewish voters swing states like Florida. Thus, my comment about loops, feedback loops, and feedback loops for the feedback loops. I think Bush and Rove talk constantly and I think the results of those talks factor in to everything. But I don't think that Rove's views are a single factor determinate of what comes out in terms of foreign policy actions or rhetoric. As they say in the trade, there is a "relative autonomy" there.

As for Bush's piety, I think that the fact that he is a political animal every bit as much as Clinton was is far more important to know than his piety.

Why am I not surprised we disagree here!!
