The GOP wants anti-abortion judges, the Dems don't. Let's be honest. That is the case. And a large majority of Americans want abortion rights protected, even if they would never get one themselves. Especially the women whose issue it is, after all. Their bodies, their choice. If Pickering is a zealot versus abortion rights that may be the real reason, but he has a few racial flaws on his record too and thus maybe the Dems make a case on that instead. But it's probably both.
