When a large chain opens new stores, suppliers are asked for concessions to help in the new growth. That can often times come in the form of free merchandise for the new store.

Only the behemoths can get this kind of treatment, and HD is one of them. The audicity is directly proportional to chain size and growth. If you have a smaller national chain, you might ask for 1-year dating, or substantial discounts.

HD is predicated on growth. If it stops, they're in for a world of hurt.
