Our local paper ran an article today quoting a senior Hamas leader as saying devout Iraq Moslems should plan on launching a wave of suicide bombing attacks on US troops if they invade and are stupid enough to try an extended occupation. Saddam's secular followers would never do this this, but Al Queda types certainly would and will. If the US invades we may well look back to the good old days when Saddam was in power. The idea that the US forces would be looked upon as liberators despite the huge human toll of the sanctions and its close alliance with Israel -- the sworn enemy of the Arabs -- is totally absurd.
