I cannot follow the logic that says reducing our dependence on oil will increase the stability of the Middle East. If we reduced oil consumption 30% I think it would cause an economic collapse in the Middle East, extend the poverty of the Arab people and fuel their rage. How people would react is unpredictable but I don't forsee the outcome as political stability.

This is not an argument for or against reducing oil consumption but the logic that says using less oil would lead to more peace seems tragically flawed to me.
