I wonder why things like introduction of IRA's/401K's, current interest and inflation rates, and productivity increase percentages are ignored by those using historical data to draw conclusions? While many things remain the same, others definitely change. Scott

Great point. The economic chicken little crowd use a naive form of historical equilibrium to demonstrate that the end is near. They ignore or dismiss current economic data that conflicts with their POV and they have no understanding of structural changes in the economy.

The 'this time it's different' crowd took a beating. Next, the 'this time it's the same' crowd get their cumuppance.
