Win Smith, Some back of the envelope calculations: Iraq's current production rate of 2 million barrels a day could maybe be rounded up to a billion barrels a year, in the near term. If you figure profits of $20/barrel, that's a round $20billion / year, which could support a little more than the current $1 billion / month operation in Afghanistan. It would take a long time to pay off a $200 billion war effort, though. Looting Iraqi oil for 10 years or so would make a good and proper mockery of the "Democracy in Iraq" line, maybe the W crowd could follow up on the "hearts and minds" front by sending Bernard Lewis and Daniel Pipes in to deliver the locally popular "Arab Mind" lecture to the occupied population. Once the invasion is complete, in order to build democracy in Iraq, W must first foster multi culturism, pluralism and tolerance. Perhaps the best way to achieve this is for W to ask his friend, Ariel Sharon to build settlements in Iraq. In addition to making the Iraq desert bloom, the settlers could also be engaged as security forces to protect the oil facilities when not busy building new synagogues next to those funny looking mosques.
