I saw that and had two thoughts. The first was like yours; the second was just how volatile those sentiments must be so I discounted them.


Volatile, perhaps, but hardly randomly so. In March, the Palestinians thought they had a sure winner with suicide bombing; now, they are not so sure, having seen the downside of the policy, but not the promised upside (Israeli withdrawal), aside from the satisfaction of killing Jews, which seems to still be a big factor.

Some sentiments in Palestine are volatile. But if you go back through his surveys over the years you find others which hardly change at all.

For instance, the Palestinians have consistently held that Israeli political system is admirable and gives more freedoms to its subjects than PA does.

That deserves contemplation.
