Credit Cruch at Sears
01/15/03 11:02 AM EST

Sears (S:NYSE) released its credit card figures and the results are not good. The chargeoffs rose by 100 basis points from last month (to 8.11%) and the delinquency rates rose.

This helps to explain today's weakness in American Express (AXP:NYSE) and Capital One (COF:NYSE).

Reaper: If Koizumi does the unthinkable and finally sets the BOJ on its ass, one plausible outcome is that Japan will finally try to weaken the Yen. How to do so? Buying lots of US treasuries would be one mechanism, no?
Weakening the Yen would also make asset sheets of banks look stronger with their US holdings.
Or maybe they buy US equities?
