If I fight, we die.
If I do not fight, we die.
Therefore let us fight and die.

I don't buy into this Nadine.. Bill Richardson is claiming "they don't think like us" but that's also rather muddied logic.

Jong loves western movies. He aspires to be a movie director.. He spends a reported 2 hours a day on the internet trying to see what others are saying about his statements... He's no fool.. He knows that acting like a spoiled children has gotten whatever he wanted in the past and the west is no different...

But he also recognizes that should he launch an invasion of S. Korea, which would result in hundreds of thousands of dead, he will lose any chance of keeping himself from being hung in a war crimes trial (or putting a bullet through his head in his bunker). As it stands, he could take his accumulated wealth and bug out to China (who would probably grant his asylum), or he can be offered a chance to reunify both the Koreas and maintain some semblance of economic and political power for the foreseeable future.

The US is not backing Jong against a wall. He's going there all by himself by escalating the rhetoric. Thus, while I'm not calling for the US to take any unilateral action, neither should we engage in a non-agression pact when it's S. Korea he should be negotiating that with.

I don't care what his culture is, Asian or western.. He can accept being permitted to keep some of his "chips", or risk losing them all in a futile invasion.

Like a parent with a unruly child in the supermarket, we cannot be held hostage to threats and intimidation.
