If we study the Bible in public schools, we'll be studying the Koran, the Upanishads, the Book of the Dead, and the Torah as well. We need to give equal time. However, the Bible is not in the state standards. There is plenty of other literature to fill up the time. Shakespeare's plays are required in every year of study, as well as great American and world literature. There are plenty of fine books to read. Survey of world religions is generally taught in history class, not in English. I think that is appropriate. On the other hand, I think the religious students should be able to writer personally on religion, or religious themes, whenever it is appropriate.
